Our Church

The Ministry of Grace Church of the First Born of Miami, Inc, here in Florida, began its’ embryonic stage out of 1) a love for the Ministry of The Church of the Firstborn of Jamaica, 2) a desire for the expansion of that Ministry, and 3) a passion for the lost soul of mankind and a deep yearning for Christian fellowship between Brothers and Sisters of Church of the Firstborn of Jamaica.

Two Firstborn Brothers, Reverend Luther McKenzie, and Deacon Rupert Spaulding, who both migrated from Jamaica to the USA met in Miami, (and “to cut a long story short,”) shared their hearts’ desires, pooled their resources, which at that time were, family members, family homes, family transportations, and family equipment and had the first Sunday Morning Worship Service in the home of Reverend McKenzie in October 1980.

In September 1981, the Ministry was incorporated and registered as Grace Church of the First Born of Miami, Inc. under the Laws of the State of Florida.  The first Directors noted on the Articles of Incorporation were President, Reverend Winston Grant, Vice-President, Reverend Pirathan Hill, and Secretary/Treasurer, Reverend Luther McKenzie.  The Ministry today is governed by an Executive Board, with Reverend Gary Hoffenden as President, Reverend Luther McKenzie (Vice President,) Dr. Gloria Hemmings (Secretary,) Deacon Rupert Spaulding (Treasurer,) Reverend Charles Fenderson, and Deacon Rolyn Palmer (Directors.)

The Ministry has grown, moving from a single family home, to leased facilities from Maranatha Seventh Day Adventist Church in Northwest Miami, to our own headquarters and worship assembly in Northeast Miami, with branch worship assemblies in Northwest Miami and Fort Lauderdale.  For just under two years, up to June.2006, we also served the Southwest Miami area.

Our Ministry today includes, but not limited to Men’s and Women’s Ministry, Youth Ministry, Sunday School, Social Outreach Ministry, Sunday AM and PM Worship Services, Weekly Prayer Meetings and Bible Studies, Marriage and Family Counseling, and Conducting Weddings and Funerals.
